Notes about the Series “Love Beyond Words”
I start each painting session with a meditation asking for Spirit’s assistance to co-create a heartfelt expression of love. I might meditate on a spiritual quote being open to the vision that comes forward or I might just ask for Spirit’s assistance. Once I begin, I am lost in the process, lost in time, flowing with Spirit. I end each painting session with a moment of gratitude acknowledging that “This is what flowed through me today.”
2015 BLURRED LINES – 60 x 120 Oil On Canvas
When I allow space to appear and sit in the loving essence I become present in the only moment there is. What I see is always what I get. I can see NOWHERE and that is where I am. I can see silence, I can see space. I can be in the same NOWHERE, but with a little space I am NOW HERE and I see everything new. The ability to see my truth, to see through the eyes of my truth is only possible when I am lovingly present. I have awakened. The lines blur and there is a vastness of space between all lines. I am no longer nowhere. I am NOW HERE. View Artwork
2015 TRANSPARANCY – 60 x 120 Oil On Canvas
I like to play with color and see what happens when layers of them are added in different orders to each other. This painting is 10 layers of transparent oil paints laid over the adjoining color in different orders. The result is a harmonious fabric that has a sense of perfect imperfection. View Artwork
2015 SOUND CURRENT – 60 x 120 Oil On Canvas
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
During meditation as I am chanting my tones and residing in my heart, there comes a moment when I get a glimpse of Spirit. Sometimes I see a sliver of light and feel darkness on either side of that opening into Spirit and try to slip through. Other times I feel an energy flow that runs through my body. I want to stay in that flow like I love standing in the flow of a hot shower. Either way, I am carried by the Sound Current where time stops and everything becomes clear. View Artwork
2014 FILTERED LIGHT – 48 x 60 Oil On Canvas
“A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Light has so many meanings on so many different levels. Light affects how we feel. Light is a part of Spirit that radiates joy. Seeing the light is part of my meditation. Closing my eyes during meditation I see shadows at the edges and glimmers of light in the middle. I love the feeling of seeing this filtered light. I become at peace, knowing on some level I am connecting with Spirit. View Artwork
2014 THREE REALITIES – 30 x 84 Oil On Canvas
What is reality? There is Spiritual reality, my reality, and everyone else’s reality. If we see our lives as a movie, with all these other souls perfectly cast to help us become whole and balanced and in our loving, then it is up to us how we want to direct, act and show up to make this a success. How miraculous Spirit or consciousness is to perfectly place each character in each other’s lives so we can learn to heal those parts inside of us that cause us to be out of balance!
How I relate to the issue is the issue. I have the opportunity to look at the part I play in the “drama” of life and in the creation of my reality. I am drawing this all to me. What are the patterns showing up in this that I can learn and grow from? View Artwork
2014 STAY CENTERED – Triptych 64 x 80 Oil On Panel
“A mind at peace, a mind centered and not focused on harming others, is stronger than any physical force in the universe.” ~Wayne Dyer
The Human experience is set up to provide us with learning opportunities. Whenever something upsets our peace, there is a chance to learn from it. We can fall prey to the chaos, the hectic nature of time, the self-imposed stresses of life, or not. We have a choice to stay centered and let the chaos of the storm swill around us. Things will come and things will go. This too shall pass. The weather will change. Being aware of this constant change, while not being part of it, is like having the right clothes for the weather. Today it is raining…I’ll put on my raincoat. I am no longer bothered by the rain and I know it will pass. Acceptance and preparedness allows my mind to be at peace. View Artwork
2013 FORGIVENESS – 48 x 60 Oil On Board
“Forgiveness is the final form of love.” ~Reinhold Niebuhr
The inner knowing that each of us is God, one with the universe, connected with Spirit means having the ability to look out into the world from a place of true Loving, the Authentic Self. One way to reach this place is by doing forgiveness. Forgiving myself and forgiving others. I forgive myself for judging myself as….(fill in the blank) and I forgive myself for judging (name the person) as…. (fill in the blank). Then I let it go and allow it to be cleared and released by Spirit. When we judge ourselves or another, we separate from the loving. Practicing forgiveness reconnects us with it. View Artwork
2012 HEAVAN HELL – 48 x 96 Oil On Plexi Panel
“Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.” ~Rossiter W. Raymond
Many people think they need to wait until Heaven to meet God. My experience is, God is within me every moment with every breath I take. When I am present in my loving, aware that I am a Divine Being, I am experiencing Heaven. When I separate myself from God within me through judgment and righteousness, I experience Hell. Awakening is the realization that Heaven on Earth exists within this now moment. It’s up to me to choose into it. View Artwork
2011 KOI POND – 48 x 60 Oil On Linen
“Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world.”
~Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
Life lived in balance, at peace with yourself and others, compassionate and loving is how I imagine the fish living in Koi Ponds. They are a microcosm of a perfect world in balance. Plants, food, water, air and God’s creatures living in simplicity, patience and compassion. View Artwork
2010 OPPOSITES – 29 x 65 Oil On Board
“When People see some things as beautiful, Other things become ugly. When people see some things as good, Other things become bad. Being and non-being create each other. Difficult and easy support each other. Before and after follow each other. Therefor the Master acts without doing anything. And teaches without saying anything. Things arise and she lets them come; Things disappear and she lets them go. She has but doesn’t possess, Acts but doesn’t expect. When her work is done, she forgets it, That is why it last forever.” ~Lau Tzu
When I understand that opposites are really two sides of the same judgment I begin to grasp the oneness of the universe. The opposites of anything complete and form the whole in this human experience. Seeing the whole, seeing both sides at the same time, with compassion and acceptance is letting go of judgment and coming into alignment of “What is”. I can enter into Spirit at that moment. The sliver of understanding represented as “The Light” between the opposites is a portal to slip though and become aware of our oneness with Spirit. View Artwork
2010 FIRE AND WATER – 20 x 80 Oil On Linen
Spirit, Consciousness is limitless and vast. With the help of all the elements a vessel, our body, was created to house a part of our consciousness here on Earth. Imagine that the ocean is the entirety of consciousness. When we fill a glass of water from the ocean, that glass holds a part of consciousness yet is still connected to the entire consciousness, just pulled away while it is in the glass. We are all one, just energy, taking the form of the elements, earth, air, ether, fire and water while we are visiting this earth plane. View Artwork
2010 THE HUMAN CONDITION – Diptict 40 x 80 Oil On Linen
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” ~Helen Schucman
Beneath all human emotions is love. Through our life experiences, we have put up our own walls, painted our own pictures of who we think we are and what defines us. We are here to experience all the colors of life but not define ourselves by them. Removing the walls is the key to allowing love to flow freely. In this painting the free flowing spirit is represented by the curvilinear black forms behind the rigid lines and colors of humanity. True love has no judgement and is devoid of color, it loves everyone and everything the same. View Artwork
2009 RUMI’S FIELD – 48 x 72 Oil On Linen
“Out beyond ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.” ~Rumi.
Some people see Rumi’s field as a beautiful, earthly meadow filled with wild flowers and two lovers running into each other’s arms. To me, Rumi’s field is the field of consciousness where everything just is. When we see things from a place of right and wrong, we are in judgment of others as well as of ourselves and believe things need to be different then they are. When I let go of judgment, let go of my position of right or wrong, I have the ability to reside in acceptance of “What is.” I am able to reside in my authentic self, my loving, in consciousness. I believe that is the field Rumi is talking about. Out beyond ideas right-doing and wrong-doing, out beyond judgments there is a field. I’ll meet you there. I will meet you in my loving.
The dark blue edges in the painting are similar but different, representing right and wrong as similar but different. There are varying degrees of judgment reflected by the gradual shading leading to the “Light” of consciousness. My intention is to live in the Light. It is in this field of light, that I choose to meet you. View Artwork
2009 I AM LIGHT – 48 x 60 Oil On Board
“Outer experience is a reflection of inner reality.” ~USM
The awareness that all of my past story, the way I choose to hold a memory in my mind is projected onto the person in front of me. I can stand before them, listen, look at them and they say “I AM RED” but what I hear and see and feel is “BLUE”, through a filter of BLUE. When I free myself from my past story, my past judgments of that story, my past judgments of myself and the other people in that story I am able to be present. When I radiate compassion for myself, my past self and the people in my past story; when I live in awareness and acceptance of “What is” and know what happened is divinely planned, I am free. Now, when I stand before a mirror, or stand before another being, I see and hear “I AM LIGHT”. At that moment I can see the Divinity in the other person which is a projection and reflection of my own Divinity. View Artwork
2008 CONSCIOUSNESS LOVE – 48 x 60 Oil On Board
“Love is…… to love with an open heart, from my authentic self, from divine spirit inside. To be in present, in the loving, I must free my mind of all past judgments, embracing forgiveness, surrendering. It is in this moment that I can look out at the world and see perfection in all that is. I am lovingly present because I have no thoughts of the past or future. I am here right now, perfect just as I am, as you are. Love is.” ~Douglas Teiger
The love of God, the Love of Spirit, The Love of Consciousness, whatever term you want to give to that greater Source, is unconditional and infinite. View Artwork
2007 SPEED VISION – 48 x 60 Oil On Board
Without spiritual awakening life can be a blur. The human experience can occupy our minds. Our ego can take control and make life seem like it is happening to us. The reality is life is happening for us, providing opportunities to learn, to slow down, and to become present to what really matters. This painting is a reminder to slow down, allow life to come into focus, and become aware of the gift that is given to each of us every day. View Artwork
2007 HIDDEN ANGELS GOLD – 48 x 60 Oil On Linen
“Look, and it can’t be seen. Listen and it can’t be heard. Reach, and it can’t be grasped.
Above, it isn’t bright. Below, it isn’t dark. Seamless, unnamable. Form that includes all forms, Image without an image, Subtle, beyond all conception.
Approach it and there is no beginning; Follow it and there is no end. You can’t know it, but you can be it, At ease in your own life. Just realize where you come from: This is the essence of wisdom.” ~Lau Tzu
Being in the Human experience is a gift; a gift that is presented as we come into understanding the oneness, the flow of consciousness, and the blessings that are in-front of us each day. We can easily be blinded to them yet with a shift in perspective, we can just as easily see them all. When we become quiet in our minds, we connect to the wisdom in our hearts and our soul. Here we can experience our angels embracing and protecting us. View Artwork
