ABOUT

Love what you do and do what you love.

PHILOSOPHY

Living in gratitude each day, being present each moment, loving what I do and doing what I love makes my life successful and rewarding. Creating a balanced life where work, play and relationships are nurtured is key. Checking in with my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs is a daily process that creates inner awareness. Awareness of the inner choices we make can lead to a greater sense of well-being – which in turn, leads to greater creativity, joy, and inner peace. Knowing that outer experience is a reflection of inner reality is a conscious way of making challenging situations a learning opportunity.

Bio

With over 40 years in practice, Douglas has a wide range of experience. He started working for other firms after graduating in 1982 which led him to open his own firm in 1989. In 1999, Douglas formed a partnership, Abramson Teiger Architects (ATA), lasting 20 years and grew a 6 person firm into a 32 person firm. As managing partner, Douglas’ ability to effectively streamline the operations allowed for more time to be spent on design and project research – a major factor in the consistent high level of design associated with ATA.

Douglas’s mission is to mentor young firms in order to accelerate their growth. Using his expertise, he acts as a sounding board for young principals as well as a guide through all aspects of a practice including Strategic Planning, Operations, Human Resources, Marketing and Business Development. His life coaching skills facilitate a work/life balance as an important part of a successful practice.

Education

B.A. in Architecture Cornell University (graduated with honors)
M.A. in Spiritual Psychology University of Santa Monica

tidbit

Douglas’s spiritual journey has led him to travel around the world; spending time at monasteries, churches and temples in Nepal, India, Europe and the United States. Douglas is a husband and father to three amazing boys and uses his free time to race motorcycles, heli-ski, play ice hockey and paint. He believes he will live to be 150 years old, healthy, creative, happy, spreading joy to the world and still constantly striving for a design that is large enough for silence to echo, yet small enough for intimacy to remain.
